3 External Verification School SQA Co-ordinators will receive notification of Verification Selection and Verification Reports via SQA Connect The detail of the selection will tell you: If the selection relates to Unit or Course verification If the verification will be visiting or event/postal - so far Business Management have all been events Which round the selection relates to What the materials uplift date or visiting period will be In Unit Verification of National 3–5, verification evidence can be based on complete or Interim Evidence.

4 Definition of Interim Evidence Interim evidence is evidence for a Unit which the candidate has not yet fully completed. There must be sufficient evidence to support assessment decisions as it is the reliability of these assessment decisions which is scrutinised by the External Verifier. Such evidence must have been assessed and internally verified by the centre if it is to be considered by the External Verifier. Interim Evidence

8 Internal Verification Every SQA centre is responsible for operating an effective and documented Internal Quality Assurance System The purpose of Internal Verification Ensuring the validity of internal assessments and the reliability of assessors’ judgements Standardisation Exercises Definitions & Arrangements Sampling Assessment Decisions Document sampling strategies in a written internal verification procedure Maintaining Assessment and Verification Records

9 External Verification Sample - National 3, 4 and 5 Units Total of 12 candidates. This should comprise: 4 candidates per level at 3 different levels National 3, National 4 and National 5 You can choose which Unit to select for each level. You must choose the same Unit for all candidates at the same level, but you can choose different Units for different levels. CAN include the Added Value Unit at National 4 if you have sufficient assessed candidate evidence for that Unit.

10 External Verification Sample - National 3, 4 and 5 Units Insufficient candidates at one or more levels: Must increase the sample size from a different level Preferably National 4 Total sample is still 12. Verification Sample: Should include candidate performance and assessment judgements for pass and fail.

16 Verification Outcomes - National 3–5 Verification outcomes and reports will be made available via: NQ QA Software on SQA Connect Accepted Indicates that the approach to assessment and the assessment judgements were in line with national standards Accepted* (Accepted with Recommendations) Indicates that there are some recommended actions, but that overall the approach to assessment and the assessment judgements were in line with national standards

17 Verification Outcomes - National 3–5 Not Accepted Indicates that the approach to assessment and/or the assessment judgements were not fully in line with national standards and a hold is being placed on certification. The report will confirm this — and what corrective action needs to be taken. Until this corrective action is taken and verified by SQA after re- submission, all candidates in the levels indicated in that Verification Group (not only those in the verification sample) will not be certificated.
