1 WALT: Recognise and use phrases in the past tense with leisure activities.
WILF: To be able to see the difference between the present tense and the past tense. You must be able to recognise 3 different tenses for grade C and above. Write translate these sentences: I play football I watch television I listen to music I ski I go to the swimming pool Extension: add a frequency word to end of these sentences to say how often you do them

2 How do we form the past in English?
I play > I played I watch > I watched It’s the same in french…to put a verb in the past it has to be changed! …but it’s a little bit more complicated

3 J’ai écouté de la musique
Note how the phrases are different in each tense. Present Tense Past Tense J’ai joué au football Je joue au football J’ai regardé la télé Je regarde la télé J’écoute de la musique J’ai écouté de la musique Je fais du ski J’ai fait du ski Je vais à la piscine Je suis allé à la piscine

4 There are 3 parts to the past
Remember! There are 3 parts to the past What are they?

5 This is the recognising part of the WALT
Read the on the right and find the French past tense phrases. Translate them into English. This is the recognising part of the WALT Extension: translate the text into English

6 Writing Write a paragraph in French saying what you did last week based on the diary. Extention: Write this diary entry in the third person eg il a regardé la télévision

7 Neighbours What three things has your neighbour learnt today?
Be prepared to feedback to the class afterwards (Remember you need to show me that they can actually say it in French otherwise how will I know you have learnt it!?)
