1 A TRIP TO TRIESTE La Risiera di San Sabba PRESENTATION CIVOLANI-BIACCHESSI-PEDRINI- WHAID

2 PRESENTATION OF A TRIP TO TRIESTE On the 4 th of November we went to Risiera di San Sabba and we travelled by bus. The weather was cloudy. In the morning we visited the Risiera di San Sabba: HISTORY TO RISIERA OF SAN SABBA : In October 1943, this rice-husking factory on the outskirts of Trieste became the only Nazi internment and extermination camp in Italy. Today, La Risiera is a museum in which the memory of this dreadful period is being conserved and passed on to young generations. Built in 1898 in San Sabba, a suburb of Trieste, La Risiera became a camp through which transited the prisoners bound for Germany and Poland, as well as an extermination camp for political prisoners, partisans and Jews. The Nazis deported more than 700 Trieste Jews to extermination camps; less than twenty returned. The actual Museum opened in 1975 after the architect, Romano Boico, restored the site. The actual monument of the Risiera di San Sabba has preserved a part of the abandoned factory and the architect who designed the monument, Romano Boico, expresses the squalor in the abandoned buildings and the structure made of concrete which together with with the nudity of these walls gives the impression of confinement, of a place one cannot escape."

7 IMPRESSIONS Federico= I was struck by the story of the life of the deportees. Luca = What really struck me was the story of the deportee. Davide=I was struck by the description of how the Nazis killed the prisoners for nothing. Ayoub=As Davide, I was struck by the cruelty of the Nazis who killed the prisoners without any reason.

9 FROM "IF THIS IS A MAN" BY PRIMO LEVI You who live safe In your warm houses You who find, returning in the evening hot food and friendly faces consider whether this is a man working in the mud that knows no peace fighting for a piece of bread who dies at a yes or a no. Consider whether this is a woman, without hair and without name no more strength to remember Her eyes empty and her womb cold like a frog in 'winter. Meditate that this came about: Remember these words. Carve them in your heart When at home or in the street, bed, rising; repeat them to your children. Or have you smashing the house, the illness impede your children turn their faces from you.
