God’s Grace Has Appeared There are some verses that stand out to us because of their especially important statement. Verses that dramatically impact our thinking, lives, and future.
2
God’s Grace Has Appeared “11: For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12: Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13: Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14: Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works” (Tit. 2).
3
God’s Grace Has Appeared “That grace which brings salvation has appeared to all mankind, and its design is to make all holy who embrace it, and to teach all to live for a higher and a better world.” (Albert Barnes.) “Here we have the grounds or considerations upon which all the foregoing directions are urged, taken from the nature and design of the gospel, and the end of Christ’s death.” (Matthew Henry.)

Grace defined: “…moreover, the word charis contains the idea of kindness which bestows upon one what he has not deserved….the New Testament writers use charis pre-eminently of that kindness by which God bestows favors even upon the ill-deserving, and grants to sinners the pardon of their offences, and bids them accept of eternal salvation through Christ…” (Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, Thayer, pg. 666).
6
God’s Grace Has Appeared Jesus is the very epitome of God’s grace: “16: And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. 17: For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ” (John 1 cp. Rom. 5: 21; 2 Cor. 8: 9; Eph. 2: 8, 9; Acts 20: 32).
7
The practicality of grace: 1. It is by grace that the gospel, God’s power unto salvation, is effected (Gal. 1: 6-9). 2. Man is initially called to God by grace (cp. Gal 1: 15). 3. The heart is “established by grace” and grace can be sufficient for the many trying experiences life offers (Heb. 13: 9; 2 Cor. 12: 7-10). 4. Moreover, we can have “everlasting consolation” and “good hope” by or in God’s grace (2 Thes. 2: 16).
8
Grace must have a certain requisite environment in order to flourish and produce salvation. Grace never reigns in a climate of disobedience (Rom. 2: 6-9). In fact, we are told that grace reigns in the milieu of righteousness (Rom. 5: 21). The “righteousness” in which grace reigns is not Christ’s personal righteousness, which some teach is arbitrarily and unconditionally imputed to the sinner, but man’s humble submission to Jesus’ teaching and Lordship (Luke 6: 46, cp. Ps. 119: 172).

10
God’s Grace Has Appeared “5: Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6: And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 8: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Eph. 2)
11

12

14
God’s Grace Has Appeared The gospel is a teaching system: “20: But ye have not so learned Christ; 21: If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus” (Eph. 4, cp. John 6: 44, 45).
15

18

If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16: For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17: And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (I John 2).

20
God’s Grace Has Appeared Positive aspects of the gospel: “12: Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13: Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14: And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness” (Col. 3).
21

23

24
God’s Grace Has Appeared “18: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 19: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20: Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec” (Heb. 6).
25

30
God’s Grace Has Appeared Titus 2: 11-14 contains the following: 1. The glorious announcement of the universal grace of God. 2. The fact that this grace offers salvation to all. 3. God’s grace teaches us, both negatively and positively. 4. This grace offers hope, the hope centered in Jesus’ final appearance. 5. There is an attendant responsibility: Live a certain way.
