3. Introduction What happens to us when we die? It is commonly understood that the good go to heaven and the bad writhe in at eternally burning hellfire. Are these ideas Scriptural?

4. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that the interest of the Bible writers was not so much in what happens to us when we die, but in the Blessed Hope of the Resurrection at the last day.

31. Revelation 20: 5,6 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

32. Conclusion These passages suggest that death is simply a sleep, and that when we die we rest in the grave until the Resurrection. Job, David, Solomon, Isaiah, Daniel, Hosea, the Gospel writers, the Apostle Paul, and Jesus, all made the Resurrection the event they longed for.

33. They also tell us that there are two resurrections; the first for the righteous when Christ returns, and the second (1000 years later – Revelation 20:1-10) for the unsaved.
