Hebrews 6:13-20 God made ‘the promise’ to Abraham –Swearing on no one greater than Himself I will surely bless you I will surely multiply you –Idea, purpose, choice, plan, call, covenant—all God’s –Eph. 1:3-4; Romans 8:29-30 Abraham have patiently waited –Obtained the promise The promise by God being secured by His character

Men on the other hand –Swear by one greater than themselves –Between men an oath (swearing) given As confirmation Ends every dispute In the same pattern –GOD Interposed with an oath or pledge –Unnecessary, God did it anyway 2 Cor. 1:22, 5:5; Eph. 1:14 –Our engagement ring

Desiring to show Hebrews –Heirs of the promise Romans 9:6, 8 The unchangeableness of His purpose –To redeem a lost world –Faith in the promise giver being a catalyst for receiving the promise We may have strong encouragement –Salvations complete security in Jesus Christ By two unchangeable things –God’s promise and pledge –Knowing what—it’s impossible for God to lie

This security, this strong encouragement –Gives us a ‘hope’ and refuge –1 Timothy 1:1; Colossians 1:5 An anchor for our souls –Sure and steadfast –One that enters within the veil Hebrews 1:3 –Where Jesus our forerunner entered for US –Having become a High Priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek
