REVELATION CHAPTER 11 Verses 1 & 2 V. 1. And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. V. 2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Which temple to measure? There was no temple at the temple site in A.D. 96. What happened to the Jewish temple?

TEMPLE HISTORY B.C. 966-959 The First Temple – Built by King Solomon – I Kings Ch. 6, 7 & 8 April 30 - B.C. 586 – The Temple was destroyed by fire by the Chaldean force under the leadership of Neuzar-adan, Commander in Chief of King Nebuchadnezzar - 2, Kings Ch.25:9 B.C.516 - Second Temple by Zerubabbel and Ezra – Ch.6 by the Jewish return from exile under the edict of Cyrus II in B.C. 538 B.C. 168 – Antiochus IV Epipahanes issued an edict prohibiting Jewish observation of Sabbath, circumcision, dietary laws and temple sacrifices ( Non-canonical Book of 1 Mac.1: 41-64) and subsequently desecrated the temple by erecting an altar to Zeus. This event was the fulfillment prophecies ( B.C. 540) through Daniel in Chap. 11: 31 This event was followed by the Maccabean revolt and under the leadership of Judas Maccabeous the temple was cleansed and rededicated by B.C. 142.

B.C. – 37 to B.C. 4 - Rule of Herod the Great under the submission to Roman Caesar incorporated Judea as part of Great Roman Empire Temple underwent massive renovation and beautification jobs to make it Architectural masterpiece in the Middle East, as part of Rome’s tolerant policy that enacted by Herod the Great. Several extensions such as ‘court of women’, court of Gentiles, etc. were added It is about such renovation jobs the Jews referred in John 2:20 as Jesus spoke about his own body in verse 19. POSSIBILITIES OF FULFILMENT OF PROPHECIES IN IMPOSSIBILITIES. Which nation who lost their Land and Government survived massive persecutions and holocaust, returned to their own land and established a nation after 2000 years of ‘Diaspora’? Even after they established their nation in 1948, the old Jerusalem, where the temple was situated, was under the control of Arabs. Every Jew on Diaspora had been praying three times a day to rebuild the temple.

Following is an extract from the constitution of The Jerusalem Temple Foundation: PURPOSES: 1.To undertake research into the history of Holy Places in Israel. 2.To provide scientific means and equipment for the efficient investigation of such places and of archaeological sites. 3.To study the religious, political, economic, social, cultural and ethnic aspects and implications of these investigations and explorations. 4.To advance the learning and application of the scriptures. 5.To work for the safeguarding an preservation of the integrity of Holy Places in Israel, and their restoration, with special emphasis on the Temple Mount. 6.To provide a forum for authoritative discussion of matters falling with the Foundation's scope of interest. 7.To publish the results and records of its discussions and research in order to endow the public with a wider knowledge of Holy Places and archaeological sites in Israel. 8.To launch world-wide competitions for the design and construction of suitable edifices and similar projects in Israel. 9.To raise funds for the promotion and development of these and allied activities.

WHO ARE GOING TO BE THE PRIESTS AND HIGH PRIESTS? Researches going on to find out the lineage of Levite priesthood. Apparels ( such as Ephod), etc. are ready. ARK OF THE COVENANT? Most Orthodox Jewish believers in Jerusalem who are working towards the building of the Third Temple believe that the Ark of the Covenant is safely hidden in a chamber under the Temple Mount. They feel certain God has preserved the Ark for 25 centuries and that it will be available when the Temple is restored. The issue of the Ark, its history and present location (if it exists at all) is reserved for a later discussion.

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO THE REBUILT TEMPLE? Dan. 9: 27 – Anti-Christ shall desecrate the temple. However, Ezekiel Chapters 40 to 48 give light that during beginning of Millennium shall witness a renovated perfect temple. Could be a repetition of History – the second temple desecrated by Aniochus Ephipanes was subsequently consecrated, renovated and beautified.
