Appalachian Regional Commission Established 1964 Presently: four goals identified in the Commission‘s plan:1) Increase job opportunities and per capita income in Appalachia to reach parity with the nation; 2) Strengthen the capacity of the people of Appalachia to compete in the global economy; 3) Develop and improve Appalachia's infrastructure to make the Region economically competitive; and 4) Build the Appalachian Development Highway System to reduce Appalachia's isolation Initiated the ARDPI in 2011 with a commitment of $1,200,00 for distressed counties in Eastern Kentucky Joint effort of DC/KY offices Initially designed to work with communities to establish local philanthropic leadership and resources via a network of local partners in order to develop long-term funding for community development
