2  Theodore Roosevelt was the 26 th President of the United States. He was a President who people, “trusted,” in. He was a hero in the Spanish-American War. Roosevelt became president in 1901.

3  Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858, in New York City.  He was born into a wealthy family.  Roosevelt was an active mischievous kid.  He did boxing lessons as a child, and that became his favorite sport.

4  When Roosevelt was older, he expressed mixed feelings.  Pondering his largely home-based early education and his college experience in his autobiography, he was a smart young person.

5  Alice Hathaway Lee was the first wife of Theodore Roosevelt.  Roosevelt’s wife, Alice died of an undiagnosed kidney failure.  Theodore Roosevelt’s mother had died of typhoid fever, in the same house, on the same day as his wife.

6  In Roosevelt’s early political career he attended the Republican National Convention in 1884.  In the 1888 presidential election, Roosevelt campaigned in the Midwest for Benjamin Harrison.  He became president of the board of New York City Police Commissioners in 1895.

7 IIn 1901, when Roosevelt was Vice President, President William McKinley was assassinated. BBecause of William McKinley’s assassination, Theodore Roosevelt was elected President of the United States in 1901.

8  By 1919, Roosevelt’s life was coming to an end.  He had a bad illness that caused him to be very sick.

9  When Theodore Roosevelt was a child, he was very sick, also.  When he was a young kid he got asthma.  He had to rest in bed or slouching in a chair most of his early childhood.

10  Theodore was sick most of his early years, and at the very end of his life.  Once Theodore Roosevelt had a bad illness, after 2 ½ months of the illness, Theodore Roosevelt died on January 6, 1919.  He was buried in Young’s Memorial Cemetery.  People will always remember Theodore Roosevelt as a, “hero.”
