Types of Light Bulbs and Their Uses
2
Bulbs There are many different types of light bulbs around, and they were all designed with a certain use in mind.
3
Incandescent Bulbs the most familiar and standard bulb
produce a steady warm light used in many household applications can last for hours produces a yellow light
4
Incandescent Bulbs electricity heats a tungsten filament in the bulb until it glows filament is in a vacuum or in a mixture of argon/nitrogen gas energy consumed by the bulb produces heat low Lumens per Watt performance surge of energy causes the filament to break
5
Incandescent Bulbs
6
Halogen Bulbs produces a brilliant white light
more lumens per watt than incandescent never touch glass small in size and are dimmable more expensive high temperature and possible fire hazard
7
Halogen Bulbs electricity passes through a tungsten filament
filament in a glass tube containing halogen gas halogen gas causes a chemical reaction removing the tungsten from the wall of the glass and deposits it back onto the filament
8
Halogen Bulbs
9
Fluorescent Bulbs long bulb life 10,000 to 20,000 hours very efficient
produced very little heat cannot be used with dimmers need components called ballasts to provide the right amount of voltage casts green light or blue daylight
10
Fluorescent Bulbs electrical current passes through a tube filled with argon gas and mercury this produces ultraviolet radiation that bombards the phosphorous coating causing it to emit light
11
Fluorescent Bulbs
12
Compact Fluorescent like fluorescent bulbs, but in a much smaller package produce little heat and are very efficient cannot be used with dimmers. last up to 10,000 hours
