Gaseous galactic halos Ralf-Jürgen Dettmar Island Universes July 6, 2005 35 Summary: the presence of gas in halos is correlated with the star formation in the underlying disk halo DIG is a good tracer and correlates with X-ray gas, radio-synchrotron emission, and the presence of dust at high latitudes there is low level star formation in halos emission line ratios of the DIG are explained by photoionization + a 10% contribution of extra heating
