Institute of Chemical Engineering page 4 Achema 2012 Thermal Process Engineering SHOCOTEC compression cooling (drying) reheating raw gas H 2 S scrubbing adsorption: removal of TOC, tar, … adsorption: removal residual H 2 S gaspermeation: CO 2 separation product gas biomethane (CH 4 rich) offgas (CO 2 rich) chemicals effluent Example: simplified flowsheet of biogas upgrading plant for the production of biomethane to be injected to the natural gas grid Raw gas desulphurisation is integral part of gas upgrading Especially crucial at elevated H 2 S-contents in raw gas or if high fluctuations in gas quality or quantity are to be expected
