3 RSES Overview RSES was founded in 1933 as a non-profit educational society. Since the beginning, the Society’s mission has been to advance the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) industry by furthering the education and skills of the practicing HVACR professional. With more than 11,000 members, nearly 150 chapters, and tens of thousands of additional technicians who routinely use its training material in 50 countries across six continents, RSES is the organization for professional HVACR technicians and contractors.

RSES’ training courses cover all aspects of the HVACR industry, beginning with simple theory and extending to complex troubleshooting in the areas of: Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Heating Electricity Controls Heat Pumps In addition, RSES also provides a number of CD-based learning products that offer HVACR technicians an alternative to the traditional classroom setting.

Online Training RSES eLearning offers high-quality online training developed by leading HVACR experts and includes: RSES Member Webinars Hydrocarbon Refrigerants CEH Corner Air Conditioning Fundamentals Electricity for HVACR Technicians Safety for the HVACR Technician EPA Section 608 Preparation  All eLearning courses are recognized by North American Technician Excellence (NATE), providing the opportunity to earn continuing education hours (CEHs) as well as continuing education units (CEUs).

RSES seminars provide great opportunities for obtaining continuing education and up-to-date HVACR industry information. Seminars are held year-round in cities across North America. RSES’ Annual Conference allows students, members and nonmembers to join their HVACR peers for Society business, targeted educational sessions, an HVACR technology expo, certification testing, and optional social activities and tours.

RSES Webinars are geared to help individuals with technical information they can apply on the job. Webinar specifics: Live webinars are FREE to RSES members All webinars are recorded and posted under the Member-only section of the RSES website Participation in the live webinar earns Members CEHs automatically Archived webinars may be purchased by Members and nonmembers through the RSES Online Store for CEH credit They are typically held the fourth Wednesday of each month Topics covered range from basic- to advanced-level HVACR

9 Providing Certification Preparation
Get the training required to earn various HVACR industry certifications including refrigerant-handling certifications and NATE certifications. Refrigerant-handling Certification EPA Section 608 training materials and testing opportunities are available through RSES. RSES has one of the largest Environmental Protection Agency testing programs in the industry, and RSES training materials have been used to certify nearly 200,000 technicians in accordance with Section 608 of the U.S. Clean Air Act.

R-410A Safety Certification As more manufacturers build air-conditioning equipment using R-410A, it is important that contractors and technicians understand the safe handling, charging, operating characteristics and proper applications of this refrigerant. RSES provides the exams and training materials for the Universal R-410A Safety and Training exam as a convenience to our members. (Exams and certifications are issued by HVAC Excellence.)

North American Technician Excellence RSES is a proud supporter of NATE; a coalition of partners sharing a stake in advancing the professionalism of HVACR technicians. RSES offers extensive NATE certification preparatory materials in manual, CD and CD/DVD formats. Additionally, a number of RSES training courses and seminars have been recognized for NATE CEHs.

Hydrocarbon (HC) refrigerants were approved for use by the U.S. EPA through their Significant New Alternatives Policy program in early 2012, for specific refrigeration applications. Hydrocarbon Refrigerants The Hydrocarbon Refrigerants training course provides information on working safely with flammable refrigerants including, but not limited to: EPA Regulations UL Standards Refrigerant Safety Service Procedures

RSES Journal, the official monthly magazine of RSES, is the industry’s leading source for technical information that HVACR contractors, technicians and facility managers can apply on the jobsite. The RSES Journal includes comprehensive, authoritative technical articles covering the installation, servicing, maintenance and troubleshooting of HVACR equipment and components as well as new technology. 

14 Types of Membership Student Member Membership in RSES provides students enrolled in accredited HVACR technology programs with an introduction to the Society at a reduced membership fee. Student members can gain most benefits of membership, with the exception of obtaining RSES membership classifications such as Active Specialized Member (SM), Certificate Member (CM) and Certificate Member Specialist (CMS).
