3 9 th grade counts – don’t wait until it’s too late!!! You will pass your classes if you adopt: The Habits of Super Successful Students 1.Go to Class on time 2.Do all of your homework 3.Go to tutorials 4.Listen in class 5.Take good notes 6.Ask for help 7.Always retest

4 Kuder Navigator Career Planning System  Internet based information system to provide lifelong career planning  Free to all KISD high school students  Forms in Counselors’ Office  Up-to-date information about careers, colleges, majors, military opportunities, and financial information  Can be used from home if you have access to the internet

5 REMINDERS  Be realistic in your course selections.  Read the catalog carefully for prerequisites and other information.  Get your teacher’s advice on whether to take Academic or Pre-AP classes in their subject area.  Please note the guidelines on exiting AP or Pre-AP courses.  Make wise choices now – Schedule changes will be difficult.  List at least three alternate choices for classes.  Include your email address & phone number.

12 Future Planning  Focus on the importance of high school  Make good academic decisions  Get involved in extracurricular activities  Start developing a student resume which includes activities, awards, and honors  Become familiar with careers that relate to your interests and abilities

13 Enrichment and Tutorials  Students can attend enrichment each week for extra help. Students request a pass beforehand.  Teachers provide tutorials either in the mornings or afternoons. Schedule is posted online and students may go to any teacher that is offering tutorials.

20 Off Campus PE  Interested students should let their counselor know if they are planning to take off campus PE.  QUALIFYING CRITERIA  CATEGORY I: Requires a minimum of fifteen (15) hours per week of exceptional or high quality participation by the student (comparable to Olympic training level) Student is allowed to miss one period of the school day

21 Off Campus PE  CATEGORY II: Requires a minimum of five (5) hours per week of appropriate  participation by the student (i.e. swimming, gymnastics, ballet, etc.).  The student is not allowed to miss any part of the school day for participation in this type of program.
