The company is structured into three major business segments :
Adhesive Dispensing Advanced Technology Industrial Coatings
5
Industrial Coating Systems
Since the 1970’s powder coating application technology has……… Coating and finishing systems 1st Generation 2nd Generation High voltage cable fed guns Application focused High output – low transfer efficiency Low voltage cable fed guns (IPS) Improved booth technology (focus) Tribo

Consistent, constant and reliable results
Industrial Coating Systems Third Generation Technology If you were to design the perfect powder coating system ? Consistent, constant and reliable results Reduced waste Place powder only where its needed Quick colour change Reduced labour Reduce operator acceptance and skill level Clean environment Control and manage the production
7
What is ‘third generation’ coating technology
Nordson examined the three disciplines of powder coating: The Heart / HDLV Pump Powder Transport Precision Dispensing Powder Circulation To improve each area we developed our ‘dense phase’ product family named Prodigy® HDLV®
8
Prodigy® HDLV® Technology
What is ‘Dense Phase’ Equipment ? The Heart / HDLV Pump HDLV = High Density powder, Low Velocity air Powder delivery hose has a high concentration of powder, very little air. Traditional venturi pumps use hi-velocity air – HDLV pumps meter powder to the gun using less air to propel. HDLV is 4 times slower – softer spray. 10
Prodigy® HDLV® Technology
What Does It Do For The User ? Provides process control Less overspray Higher transfer efficiency Lower velocity powder = higher useful electrostatic force Paints faraday areas and corners easier Higher powder output with better charging
11
Prodigy® HDLV® Technology
The Heart / HDLV Pump At the centre of dense phase technology is the HDLV (High Density Low Velocity) pump. It resembles a human heart in that it consists of two side by side pumps each with an upper and lower chamber working together to provide precise, carefully synchronized powder transport.
12
Prodigy® HDLV® Powder Transport
How Does It Work ?
13
Traditional Venturi Pumps vs Dense Phase Pumps
The old and the new Venturi Pump Flow rate controlled by combination of Flow + Atomizing air flow rates Lots of air goes out to the gun Use 11mm or 12.5mm ID powder hose Dense Phase Pump Flow rate controlled by cycle rate & suction duration Very little air goes out to the gun 0.5 to 1.2 scfm of conveyance air Use 6mm ID powder tubing
14
Traditional Venturi Pumps vs Dense Phase Pumps
Venturi pumps are non-linear in output Dosing air
15
Traditional Venturi Pumps vs Dense Phase Pumps
Dense phase pumps achieve linear output
16
Traditional Venturi Pumps vs Dense Phase Pumps
Lack of wear components means consistency over time
17
Traditional Venturi Pumps vs Dense Phase Pumps
Reduced total air consumption compared to venturi pumps
18
Prodigy® HDLV® Powder Transport
Dense Phase Pump Without Moving Parts Self cleaning / colour changing Constant powder output over time 30 second colour change High volume – low air consumption 6mm ID powder hose
19
Prodigy® HDLV® Precision Dispensing
New gun to spray dense phase Unique profile prevents powder build up on the gun Automatic gun with straight through powder path, optimised for dense phase dispensing and quick colour change
20
Prodigy® HDLV® Precision Dispensing
New gun to spray dense phase Voltage multiplier positioned at the back of the gun – so it operates outside of the booth, reducing gun flex and grounding issues

24
Prodigy® HDLV® Powder Circulation
High capacity pump Simple pneumatic control for ease of operation Less compressed air used to propel the powder results in more efficient recycling Improved sieve efficiency and throughput Automatically purge-able Less wear, no venturi throats to replace
25
Prodigy® HDLV® Powder Circulation
Recycle more efficiently with reduced air and more powder Recycling Colour change Small compact surge hopper Designed for automatic fast color change without disassembly Small flexible tubing -12mm ID
26
Advanced Booth Design High transfer efficiency of Prodigy spraying in a ColorMax3 booth Clean working environment Less to clean; faster colour change The Old Way The New Way
27
Prodigy® HDLV® Technology
Third Generation Coating Equipment 3 Steps To Process Control Transport process control is achieved by eliminating venturi wear from the equation and ensuring that air inputs to the pump are monitored and driven by a closed loop control system, dynamically compensating for fluctuations in factory air supply
28
Prodigy® HDLV® Technology
Third Generation Coating Equipment 3 Steps To Process Control Dispensing process control is achieved by conserving all application parameters in the control system, and by spraying through a soft spray gun suited to dense phase applications. This ensures the same results are achieved day after day
29
Prodigy® HDLV® Technology
Third Generation Coating Equipment 3 Steps To Process Control Recycle process control is achieved by reduced compressed air used to propel the powder, producing more efficient recycling, sieving and bulk feeding

32
Prodigy® HDLV® Technology
Process Improvement Once process control is accomplished, improvement is achievable by using the control system and ‘digital’ nature of the technology to % adjust the gun outputs (linear output)
