3 What is IDAAL ? IDAAL – Intellectual Disability And Allied Libraries IDAAL is a consortium of 5 intellectual disability agencies IDAAL provides easy access for staff and families to the most up-to-date journal articles on intellectual disabilities and related subjects.

4 continued… IDAAL provides access to the following journal article databases through 4 main databases –CINAHL: nursing and healthcare journals –Medline: medical journals –PsycINFO: psychology and psychiatry journals –Psychology and Behavioural Sciences: full text psychiatry, psychology and intellectual disability journals.

6 How to use IDAAL Click here to begin

7 Select the databases Tick the box to select the databases

8 Enter your search terms In the drop down menu select subject, author, title or for a broader search leave as “select a field”. Enter your search terms as above example Limit your results i.e. Full text only, year of publication etc.

9 Note: Effective Searches If your search is too broad (ie too many results) limit your results using the and/or/not drop down menu for example “autism not education” will show results excluding education.

10 Review your results Click on the PDF Full Text Link to access the article

11 Read or Print your article Click here to print

12 Note: Full text and Abstract only Not all articles on IDAAL are available in full text some are abstract only. If the full text is available it will display the pdf link. If an article you require is not available you can request the article through your library.

13 How to save a search Click on Alert/Save/Share icon and select “Add search to folder” from the pop-up menu When you have completed your search you have the option of saving or emailing it.

14 Select your search by ticking the box beside your search title Then click on Save Searches/Alerts

15 Add yourself in as a “New User” for the 1 st use and thereafter enter your username and password to continue

16 Setting up a User Account Enter your details in the above boxes and when you’re finished click on SUBMIT

17 Give your search a title. You can save your search either permanently, temporary or generate an alert so that when new articles under your search terms are added you will be notified via email.

18 How to Retrieve a Saved Search To retrieve a saved search you need to click on Search History/Alerts

19 Select “Retrieve Searches”

20 Enter your username and password to access your saved searches.

21 How to email your results Add your chosen articles to the folder

22 Click on the Folder icon to view the contents of your folder.

23 1. Select the articles you wish to email by ticking the box 2. Click on the envelope to email the selected articles

24 Enter your details in the above text boxes and when complete click on Send to confirm.

25 To Find a Specific Journal Click on the A-Z of journals if you are looking for a specific journal

26 Type in the journals’ full title as shown in our example and click on search button

27 You can now click on the link to the article to find specific issues/articles you require. It also shows you if any of the IDAAL member libraries hold the journal hardcopy.

28 You can search within your selected publication and browse through all the back issues
