My Final Presentation The Walker Sculpture Garden The Walker Sculpture Garden Artist Statement: Artist Statement: For this project I wanted to show my love for art. Art has been a huge part of my life and is something that I truly care about. I am actually majoring in graphic design with a minor in studio art here at the U of M. This is a subject matter which I am very familiar with. One of my favorite places to go and visit, is the Walker Sculpture Garden here in Minneapolis. When I first learned of this assignment, The Walker was the first place that I thought of. All I had to do them was figure out what I wanted my project to reflect. I knew that I wanted to portray my love of art, but also to go deeper than that. As soon as I arrived at the Walker to take pictures, I began to see and underlying concept. That concept soon grew to how the environment in which a sculpture, or piece of art is in, can really change how it is viewed. The area in which I took pictures has unique arrangements of plant life that surround the sculptures. These plants created a whole other aspect for each of the sculptures to be viewed by the public. The nature which surrounds these pieces can even evoke a whole new emotion that if the sculptures were placed in a museum, we would not see. As I began to take more pictures I tried more and more to capture this unique aspect of the Walker Sculpture Garden. I am very pleased with how these pictures turned out. This project was a very fun and unique experience. This is my first time using digital photography, and after this class I’m sure it won’t be the last. I feel that the pictures that I took at the Walker Sculpture Garden are good examples of what I have learned from this class. For this project I wanted to show my love for art.
