EPOCH 1000 Series Procedure Multi-Angle Feature

Feature Overview and Activation

General Overview u Available in Phased Array mode only u User designates any three angles (focal laws) within the S- Scan range u The A-scans from each these three angles are overlaid on top of each other in the A-scan u User can view all three A-scans at the same time u Each individual angle is color coded u Perfect when using conventional sizing methods requiring evaluation at 45, 60 and 70 degrees!

Required Items u Test Block –EP1000-PABLOCK-1 u Couplant –D-12 u Transducer and Wedge –5L16-9.6X10-A10P-P-2.5-OM probe –SA10P-N55S wedge

Parameter Setup u Once unit has been properly calibrated… –Set Range to 3in –Set Gain to 18dB –Set Angle to 45 degrees

Feature Activation u Under the Display Setup menu: –Press P2 A-Scan Setup –Change “AScan” to “Multi-Angle” –Choose the 3 angles for the Multi-Scan AScans –Press ESC to return to the home screen ★ NOTE: Selecting angles of 45, 60, and 70 degrees allows you to see all three standard conventional angles at once on a single AScan!

Multi-Angle A-Scan u Set up for detection of large notch on PA block –S-Scan shows multiple reflectors from notch, corner of block, etc u On the S-Scan, you can see multiple flaws at different angles but can only see one angle on the A-Scan

u Switch to the Full A-Scan view u Even though the selected angle is 45 degrees, multiple angles are visible on a single A-Scan! Multi-Angle A-Scan (cont.)

Focal Law Adjustment u When in coarse adjustment, adjusting the focal law will scroll through the 3 selected angles (45, 60, 70 or all focal laws) u Adjusting the focal law in fine adjustment will adjust the angle over the S-Scan range in 1 degree increments and so on…

A-Scan Colors u The angles in the A-Scan are color coded –Red = Lowest number angle (e.g. 45) –Yellow = Middle number angle (e.g. 60) –Green = Highest number angle (e.g. 70) u The active/selected angle is ALWAYS White –The remaining angles have the same colors as listed above White=45 Yellow=60 Green=70 Red=45 White=51 Yellow=60 Green=70

Multi-Angle-Single Toggle u It is possible to toggle between single A-scan (standard) mode and Multi-Angle mode after activating the Multi-Angle feature u In the PA DISPLAY group menu –Press P2 [Ascan] –Use the up and down arrows or knob to toggle between Single and Multi-Angle

Demonstration Procedure

Notch Detection u Set angle to 45 and peak up on the small notch on block –The 45 degree waveform is White u Other reflections from the notch at 60 and 70 degrees are shown in yellow and green

Notch Detection (cont.) u Back away from notch, and peak up the yellow waveform (representing 60 degrees) u Even though 45 degrees is the active angle, you can measure signals at the other selected angles!

Notch Detection (cont.) u Switch angle to 60 degrees –The peaked up waveform that was yellow will now become the white angle! u Reflections from 45 and 70 degrees would now be shown in red and green

Feature Summary u Multi-Angle is designed as a basic, “first-step” benefit of phased array in conventional angle beam applications. u Utilizes full A-scan view while still displaying information at 3 selectable inspection angles u Can be less intimidating and easier to read than the S- Scan image, providing an excellent first step towards implementing phased array in a conventional inspection
