What is Communism? It is an economic system in which all products are own by the people. There is no private property, and everything is distributed equally. It was Established by Karl Marx in the book, The Communist Manifesto, as a complete form of socialism.

Who is Mao Zedong? He was one of the founders of the Chinese communist party. Later he became China’s greatest revolutionary leader. His goal was to bring revolution to a rural country, so peasants could be the revolution. The reasons for this was because he himself was born as a peasants.

Who is Jiang Jieshi? He was the son of a middle class merchant. A major fear of his, was that the communist goal of creating a socialist economy. So he promised the Chinese people a democracy. However in time the government became corrupt.

What is the Chinese Civil War? The Chinese civil war was a conflict between the nationalists and the communists, during the years of 1930- 1933. The communists lead by Mao Zedong was composed of mostly peasants. Jiang led the nationalists against the communists for fear of a socialist society. This was the major reason for the civil war.

Why did peasants support the Chinese communist party? Since most people believe that Jiang was not improving the situation, this lead many peasants to support the Chinese communist party.

Chinese Civil War: Jiang vs. Mao Jiang ruled over southern china. Their foreign support is United States. There main goal was to defeat the communist party. Little public support due to inflation and a weak economy. Ineffective military and poor leadership tactics. Mao ruled over northern china. Their foreign support was the Soviet Union. There main goal was to liberate the peasants. Excessive public support due to promised land reforms. Experienced army which utilized guerrilla warfare.

What did Zedong Accomplish? With his dreams of a countryside revolution, also known as,” Swimming in the peasant sea,” Mao Zedong recruited peasants into his red army. With the use of guerrilla warfare he defeated the nationalist and separated China. Shortly afterward he took control of China in 1949, and renamed it the people’s republic of China, as he sought to restore China’s power. His goal was to adapt Marxian socialism in rural areas. Later, the Agrarian law was passed, which allowed Zedong to take land and distribute the land among peasants. This lead to communist policies under the rule of Mao. Private companies fell under authority of the government, and China began to industrialize dramatically. Finally, he spurred the cultural revolution to revive communism, however, this led to more violence, political instability, and the end of Mao Zedong’s reign.
