2 Young Leaders in Cricket Award Programme in its 5 th year. 500 Young Leaders completed the programme. 10,000 volunteering hours completed. Kent OSCA winner in 2011 and 2012. ECB National OSCA winner 2012, runner-up 2011. Pro-Active London Awards short listed (amongst 3) for Community Project of the year 2013.

4 Young Leaders in Cricket Award

5 Has been developed with the aim of providing quality courses to potential young leaders. Approved by the England and Wales Cricket Board and Kent Cricket Board and will be administered by the District Development Group. A pioneering initiative for retaining young people in cricket. Programme

6 Young Leaders in Cricket Award To give opportunity for Young People between the age of 14 and 16 to acquire skills and competency in leadership that will allow them to volunteer within the community of their cricket club and/or school. To retain young people between u14-u15 (Year 9 &10) in cricket as a sport by investing quality time and resources into a specialised programme. Objectives

7 Young Leaders in Cricket Award Cricket leadership skills. Improved understanding of the positive impact coaching can have. Qualifications and life skills. Role model to younger members of the school. Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme. National Curriculum level as part of PE GCSE. University Personal Statement and/or CV. Community Sports Leadership and Sports Leaders UK award in Junior Sports Leadership. Benefit to Young Person

16 Assessing an incident – arrival at the scene, dealing with casualties, contacting the emergency services, prioritise first aid treatment and recording accidents/incidents. Wounds and bleeding – Treatment of minor injuries and nose bleeds. Recognition and treatment of – A casualty that is unconscious and breathing normally (recovery position). A casualty that is unconscious and not breathing normally (CPR). First Aid Awareness

17 Young Leaders in Cricket Award Examples of volunteering – 20 hours minimum required, it is recommended to volunteer in as many aspects of the running of the game as you can. 18 Young Leaders in Cricket Award Young Leaders Fund Raising module We will be encouraging all leaders to embark on a fund raising project for this year. Your target will be £40 per leader. You can work in a team, for your club or on your own to achieve your target. Funds raised will be ploughed back into the programme to ensure future generations benefit from the programme. Excellent achievement to have on your CV. An insight into how your club raises money to sustain cricket.

19 Young Leaders in Cricket Award Young Leaders Fund Raising module 2014 examples Leaders embarked on a number of projects in 2014 to raise funds including: Sponsored for runs scored, wickets taken, catches and other significant milestones (Hat-tricks, five wicket hauls and 50’s) Cake sales, car washing, club projects, scratch cards..the list is endless!

20 Young Leaders in Cricket Award ECB Activators Certificate of attendance. (upon completion of volunteering 10 hours) vCricket rewards – ECB vCricket polo shirt, volunteering certificate and invite to Lords (upon completion of volunteering minimum 20 hours) I OG certificate ACO certificate. 22 Young Leaders in Cricket Award Will provide the necessary tools to improve your own game. Pathway to level 1 in coaching or officiating Skills and competency to volunteer – confidence. Qualifications recognized at National Level. By volunteering at your club and/or your school, you will give more children the chance to play matches and receive quality coaching. To give something back to the wider community. An achievement that can make a real difference on your Personal Statement for University or C.V. 23 Young Leaders in Cricket Award The Pledge Your Club/School will: In conjunction with the (Your District) District Cricket, arrange for each Young Leader to undertake the ECB Young Leaders’ Award, First Aid, Scorers and Umpires and Institute of grounds man courses, as appropriate. Ensure all Young Leaders co-manage matches with a responsible CRB checked adult. The Young Leader will: Attend each course, notifying the course provider of any delay or absence within good time. Volunteer at each level for at least twenty hours within the same season and complete fund raising target of £40. As a Young Leader, continue to be a role model to younger cricketers and an ambassador for the school in the wider community. Record all volunteering activity where appropriate and return to club co-ordinator in timely fashion Parents will: Ensure their son/daughter attends each course, notifying the course provider of any delay or absence within good time.
