Wagtails Term 4 Winter 2011 Physical Development We will be focusing our learning in these areas: Creating a dance from a narrative theme, using the legend of Robin Hood as a stimulus for traveling, jumping, rolling and facial expression Experiencing some medieval dance towards the end of the term Developing our skills in gym with a focus on apparatus and group work Knowledge & Understanding of the World We will continue to develop our knowledge of reliable sources with a quest to find out about the lives of the rich and poor in the Robin Hood era and placing Robin Hood and the medieval period on a timeline. Our new topic in science is changing materials: Allowing plenty of opportunity for experiments Focusing on temperature and how it can be measured with class experiments on melting and freezing Concentrating on communicating scientific ideas In RE we will be looking at Christianity and the impact of religion and Jesus’ teachings on people’s lives. Communication, Literacy and Language The legend of Robin Hood is our main area of study in literacy, as we embark on a quest through traditional stories, writing our own versions of the magical tale. We will explore myths and fables and learn techniques of adapting our writing for different age groups. Towards the end of the term we will look at script writing and attempt to produce our own scripts for a traditional story we have written. We will also use interviews and drama to empathise with characters and provide opportunities for audio and visual recording. MFL We will continue to develop our conversational French, introducing food and numbers from 30-100. We hope to communicate with our partner school in Sully, France. Creative Development We will be continuing to develop creativity in all areas of the curriculum, including using ICT as a tool to use through everything we do. In art we will be using natural materials to create a forest picture, with a focus on rough and smooth. We will also use Robin Hood as a stimulus for designing battering rams, with mechanisms to create movement. PSE Development (Personal, Social and Emotional) Our main focus this term will be on a healthier life style and why ‘its good to me’, learning: Positive strategies for when things are going wrong; the differences between being proud of ourselves and boasting Concentrating on how we can make judgments on whether or not to take risk Looking at ways to disagree without falling out Recognising and using strategies to cope with overwhelming feelings Learning Throughout the term we will focus on how we can successfully and efficiently work with a partner to further our learning. We will also monitor targets closely and help others to monitor theirs. Mathematical development We will be focusing on the following learning: Interpreting bar and line graphs Continue to develop our knowledge of multiplication facts Understanding the language of probability Addition and subtraction Developing problem solving skills Multiplication and division Measuring weight and interpreting scales Calculating the perimeter of shapes Measuring angles, perpendicular and parallel lines Fractions and improper fractions Robin Hood
