Framework for Citizen Science The term “citizen science” is used to refer to scientific projects which harness students as volunteers. Citizen science gets students involved with and interested in scientific inquiry and the natural world, and it also helps scientists immensely, allowing them to embark on studies of very large scope and generating a great deal of data to work with. U.S. Department of Education launched its Green Ribbon Schools, the first comprehensive federal policy for schools related to environment, health and education. The award acknowledges the work of schools in reaching high levels of achievement in: ▫Environmental impact and energy efficiency; ▫Healthy environment; and ▫Environmental literacy.
