The parents were sentenced with 2 years probation and 200 hours of community service. Several months later, they gave up the girls for adoption.”

Abuse/Neglect Law O I have witnessed (or heard) about an incident where abuse/neglect has taken place. What do I do? O # 1 thing to do...you MUST report it!

O Neglect is most common form of child maltreatment, affecting 57% of abuse victims. O 52% of reported abuse victims are between ages 8 and 17. O In 2003, there were 1,500 reported deaths of abuse and neglect victims.

Rape Statistics O 4,240 juveniles were arrested for rape O 37% were under age 15. O 63% were ages 16-17

Depression and Suicide O 23,900 juveniles ages 7-17 committed suicide between 2981 and 2001. Firearms were used in 60% of these deaths. O Persons ages 7-17 are about as likely to be victims of suicide as they are to be victims of homicide.
