2. Guided Design is available to those who want a creative custom solution for their room or home but don’t like the idea of traditional interior design services. Love our interior design solutions but don’t live in the area? Guided Design was developed to reach clients like you. It is the long-distance design solution! Or maybe you’re a DIY personality and you like the take-charge aspect of purchasing your own furniture, painting the walls, and heading up the scheduling of subcontractors. Or you want to save your money and like the idea of a flat rate for services. Guided Design is available at a fraction of traditional service fees because it eliminates appointments and meetings. Perhaps it’s the freedom to take the plan and move forward with your own ideas or additions. There is no pressure or obligation to buy product. Whatever the reason, Guided Design is here to help. 2

3. How it Works Your Homework  Pick a Room  Let us get to know you with the Client Questionnaire on the following page. The more we know, the better we can tailor our design to fit your unique personality and space.  Draw an aerial picture of the floor plan and wall elevations – include anything structural such as windows, doors, etc. (see examples page 6)  Measure and label the room (see example page 7)  Take photos of the room and label each space on the aerial plan.  Research rooms you love – and hate. Send us internet links and/or magazines photos with quick captions about what captured your eye.  Determine a budget or price range for the whole project. A quick budget estimator for a Living Room is shown here. (see page 9) Contact us for estimators in other spaces, if needed.  Determine your timeframe. When do you want to get started and what is the hopeful completion date?  Complete and mail the above information, along with the consultation fee, to Awaken Interiors. We will let you know when it is received and within two weeks you can look for a package from us. Inside will be the tools needed to proceed with confidence and clarity on your current project. 3

4. GUIDED DESIGN – Client Questionnaire 4 Awaken Interiors Distant Design Project Profile What is the project? Tell us a little about yourself. What are your interests and hobbies? What is your favorite color? What feeling do you want this room to have? j Who will be using the room, both every day and once in awhile? Include pets. How will this room function? (both every day and once in awhile) What activities will take place? Describe the 6 surfaces of your room: four walls, floor and ceiling. What material, color, etc - and do you love or hate it? What existing pieces (furniture, art, etc) do you want to use in this space? Please send a photo and measurements of each: width, height, depth.

5. GUIDED DESIGN – Questionnaire 5 List everything you want in this room, as a “Major Priority”, and “If Possible.” Be as specific as possible. For example, if you want a Dining Table specify which material, such as wood. If you have strong feelings about the wood species, stain or paint color, shape, number of seats, etc please make note of that. It's all in the details - if you have a photo inspiration, please include. Major PriorityIf Possible TIME FRAME. When do you hope the room will be completed? BUDGET. This is a MUST. Some people want the project done quickly and others want it phased out. What price range are you comfortable spending now, and what is your maximum overall budget? These numbers could be the same. Aerial Floor Plan Drawing  Stand in one corner of the room and start drawing from left to right until you are done.  Use pencil!  Only do one drawing per page and don’t be afraid to draw it large.  Make note of windows, doors, openings, light fixtures, etc.  Label adjacent rooms  Make note of at least one cardinal direction. 7. Measurements of Floor Plan  Start in one corner of the room and work your way around the perimeter.  Always measure in inches to avoid confusion. (12’3” could look like 123” if not)  Start your measurements on the outside of your millwork. (ie the widest part of your windows and doors)  For now, focus on the larger permanent fixtures. (You will need to take note of outlets, cable jacks, light switches, and registers when you do the wall elevations.)  Use pencil.  Be sure to include floor-ceiling height. 7 Floor Plan MeasurementsHelpful Hints:

11. GUIDED DESIGN – Questionnaire Example 11 Awaken Interiors Distant Design Project Profile What is the project? I bought a historic 1916 house (definitely a fixer-upper!) and want to start working in the living room I t is open to the entry and dining room, and I want it to be a show-stopper. Right now it is all white and has carpet over the original hardwood floors. I love the woodwork and want to bring it back to it’s original glory, while keeping a young, fresh look. Tell us a little about yourself. What are your interests and hobbies? What is your favorite color? What feeling do you want this room to have? I am a single female in my early 30s who loves to entertain, and wants to start a family in the near future. I am in the design field and have a good idea of what I like, but am afraid I will make mistakes without a plan. I love to travel – especially to warm and tropical places. I love color! Green (any shade) is my favorite. I want to portray a warm and inviting feeling in this room, as it will be used for everything – conversation, occasional TV watching, light eating (during parties) and reading or relaxing. Who will be using the room, both every day and once in awhile? Include pets. I will use it every day. I have the most adorable french bulldog who gets the run of the house, but is also very well-trained. I would like to be able to seat 6-8 people comfortably, although I know the space is a little tight. How will this room function? (both every day and once in awhile) What activities will take place? It functions as an everything room – sitting, conversation, reading, entertaining, TV watching (I have a family room that uses the big TV), some eating, etc. Describe the 6 surfaces of your room: four walls, floor and ceiling. What material, color, etc - and do you love or hate it? It has nice high ceilings and beautiful woodwork. That’s what sold me on the home! I want to leave that just the way it is, but definitely paint the walls, and tear up the carpet to show off the original hardwood floors. There are two columns that separate the room from the entry and a pretty open doorway that separates it from the Dining Room. With the big windows, there isn’t a lot of wall space. The windows currently have white drapery and I don’t like how they hide the molding. I want some privacy but also want to show off the woodwork. There is a ceiling fan. What existing pieces (furniture, art, etc) do you want to use in this space? Please send a photo and measurements of each: width, height, depth. I don’t have any existing furniture, but I do have a fabric that I love. I only want to make a pillow or something small out of it, but it is a good starting point.

Be sure to describe what you love – or hate! The more the better. “Love the curves of this sofa and the fabric/leather combo. Do not like the pattern, or yellow/brown color mix.” “This fabric makes me happy! I LOVE all the colors and the whimisical pattern. I only want to use a little, and don’t want to be overly Asian- themed.”
