These books include religious truths within historical frameworks. Styles  Oracle- consists of words of wisdom or advice given by God through a spokesperson.  Poetry- many of the psalms are attributed to King David ( a musician and poet.) The psalms have parallel structure and rhythm.  Parallel structure- a numbered verse has several parts that continue, contrast or overlap each other.  Rhythm – is based mostly in part on the syllables in a line and stresses on words.

The Iron Age – the Philistines mastered the technology of new tools & weapons The control of metal gave the Philistines economic advantage over the Israelites. The Israelites knew they Needed to build a strong Nation and were persistent In creating a monarchy. They sought a king. KING SAUL KING DAVID KING SOLOMON

 Monarchy- rule by a single head of state  Dynasty- a succession of rulers in the same family line, frequently father to son.  The prophets spoke of a King or successor to David who would be the Messiah.  Tracing the Davidic line (descendants of David) became important to establish a messiah’s authenticity and authority.

KING SAUL  His reign was short and unsuccessful  Bothered by “evil spirits” and comforted by David.  Died after being wounded in a battle with the Philistines.  Considered a tragic figure in the history of Israel.

KING DAVID  David's first and foremost drive is to have a relationship with God. We get the glimpse of the beauty of his soul when we read the Psalms, most of which he wrote. \  Who doesn't know:  The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want... (Psalm 23) The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom should I fear... (Psalm 27) I lift my eyes to the mountains ― from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth... (Psalm 121)

 From David will come all the future kings of Judah and ultimately, at the end of history, the Messiah. (Jesus)  David is responsible for making Jerusalem the capital of Israel.  King David is determined to build a “Temple of God”.  King David is married to Bathsheba who becomes the mother of Solomon.

KING SOLOMON  Son of David and Bathsheba.  Early in his career King Solomon prayed for discernment between good and evil. This brought him to be in favor with God.  The Song of Solomon ( Song of Songs)  Book of Wisdom ( Wisdom of Solomon)  Ecclesiastes  Proverbs All associated with Solomon, though he was probably not the author.
