One Patriot Place. Foxborough, MA 02035 www.revolutionsoc The most fundamental skill in soccer is individual mastery of the ball and the creativity that comes with it. This should be a priority in training and games, especially in the early years. As this skill is mastered, the rest of the game becomes easier.Practices should be built around facilitating the development of the skills necessary to move and control the ball well. As these individual skills and the creativity to make them come alive in the game are developed to a level of competence, the finer points, first of passing skill and later of team organization can be taught. 5 DELIVERY BREAKDOWN Each move must be broken down when being delivered. This process will not only help players master the skill quicker but challenges each player at their own pace. Each move goes through a 3 stage process – Preparation, Action, Recovery. Each move should also go through a 3 speed process – Static, Moving, At Pace. Players should be allowed to progress to the next speed in their own time, with guidance from the coach. Preparation The selection of move The approach to the ball The position of the body Action The moment of deception The footwork The change of body weight Recovery The adjustment of feet The reposition of body weight The change of speed/direction from the opponent Static No movement Fundamental understanding of the move Moving Roll the ball from feet and perform move Strong understanding of the move At Pace Full speed Mastery of the move New England Revolution Academy.
