Research in Libya: few myths and misconceptions The priority of Research should be directed to solving problems of society rather than publishing. There is a bias toward publishing research output from Libya Research needs huge amounts of money and resources Research written in Arabic is not publishable Engaging in Research does not promote my career All research ideas have been tried before somewhere else The Libyan University culture is not based on research and I can not change this Libyan researchers are not as intelligent as should be

Conclusions Only a positive attitude and optimistic approach would yield fruitful rewards. Among all the solutions I proposed I think networking with colleagues inside and outside Libya is the key to share ideas and debate issues related to science and pragmatically resolve problems. This symposium is a leap forward to network young talents and connect Libyan scholars.
