The Red River Before the Red River Waterway project began, the river was full of debris making transportation dangerous and difficult.

Current Position 5 Lock & Dams 20 Recreation Areas (Over 2 million visitors - 2012) Public / Private Ports ( 8.2 M barge tons – 2011 – as reported by U.S. Corps of Engineers ) Today, the Red River is a 225-mile navigable and controlled waterway providing commerce, education, and recreational opportunities for future generations.
