4 OGC © 2002, Open GIS Consortium, Inc.4 OGC Critical Infrastructure Protection Initiative (CIPI) OGC Interoperability Initiative to test application of interoperable technology. Coordination with National, State, Provincial, and Local Government, and Non- Government Organizations. Enables growth of a collaborative, distributed network of critical infrastructure information sources and services based open standards and specs.

11 OGC © 2002, Open GIS Consortium, Inc.11 The Message of CIPI Demonstration Applications? Yes, but that’s not the point…Applications? Yes, but that’s not the point… Data Services and Maps? Certainly, but that’s not the point...Data Services and Maps? Certainly, but that’s not the point... Cutting Edge Systems? Definitely, but that’s not the point either.Cutting Edge Systems? Definitely, but that’s not the point either. Everything works together, worldwide, real time, multi-vendor multi-organization, multi-jurisdictional. That’s what matters. Why? Because today’s demo was built according to emerging or published implement specifications, developed in Pilots like this one. This is about Interoperability!

13 OGC © 2002, Open GIS Consortium, Inc.13 SCENARIO DESCRIPTION: -A heavy scent of chlorine is detected in the air around the Mitchell Park area of Windsor, Ontario CA. The detection is reported to the local police. -A second, and then third report of the chemical smell 2 kilometers southwest is received, along with sightings of a commercial truck bearing HAZMAT markings. -The UN Code for chlorine is broadcast to local police units, and emergency response forces for vehicle tracking and stoppage.
