Goals Creating transitional and interstitial spaces while keeping the character of the mall. Examining storm water management techniques to reduce the amount of runoff. Strengthening the North-South and East-West Axes on the mall.

Interstitial Spaces University of Maryland Connections of open spaces define the campus. “Permeable bubbles” on campus allow students to gather publicly in spaces that enables privacy

Proposed Green Roofs -Stamp Student Union -Hornbake Library -Edward St. John -Mckeldin Library Benefits -Green roofs cool and humidify the surrounding air creating a microclimate which has beneficial effects within the immediate area. -Green roofs create biodiversity, encouraging wildlife, such as birds, butterflies and insects, to remain within urban areas. - Increased life expectancy of the roof Areas of interest -Faculty Club -Lefrak Hall -Marie Mount Hall -Visitor’s Center

Trench Drainage System - High hydraulic efficiencies due to maximum waterway created by narrow load bars. - Bicycle and pedestrian safe - Simple installation The U shaped of drainage section can increase the drainage capacity; strengthen self cleaning capacity

Bioretention - Aesthetically pleasing if properly designed and maintained. Reduces amount of runoff from drainage areas. - Effective at removal of sediment loads, nutrients, traces of heavy metals, bacteria (possible) and organics found in stormwater. -Allows for a flexibility of design layout so able to fit this practice into most landscapes. -Relatively low maintenance requirement
