Water Pollution Occurs In Developed Countries In developing countries, water pollution is caused mainly from dumping raw sewage into the water supply. In developed countries, water pollution comes mainly from 3 sources – Municipal pollution – Industrial pollution – Agricultural pollution

Municipal Pollution Water pollution from cities and towns comes from – Improperly treated sewage – Septic systems – Yard runoff – Storm drains

The San Francisco Bay The San Francisco Bay has had a problem with pollution for many years.

Industrial Pollution Factories and hospitals create pollutants that contaminate waterways. – Radioactive waste – Oils, toxic chemicals and heavy metals – Heated water

Agricultural Pollution Livestock waste – carry harmful disease Pesticides – toxic to fish Fertilizers – cause algae to grow quickly and then die and decompose. This decreases dissolved oxygen in the waterway and fish die.
