The Bahamas TSA Experience

2 Brief Description of the Sector
The Bahamas Tourism Sector involves the promotion of three major destinations: Nassau & Paradise Island Grand Bahama And the Family Islands Some of the major segments of the sector include a variety of resorts, sports, religious groups, conventions, yacht tours, game fishing and world class dining.

3 Who Are Involved? Approval Committee: Governor Central Bank, Director of Statistics, Director of Economic Planning, Ministry of Finance, Director General of Tourism, Senior Director of Research and Statistics, Minister of Tourism. Working Committee: Statistical Assistant, Research Central Bank; National Accounts Staff and Supervisor, D.O.S.; General Manager Ministry of Tourism

First Attempt was done with the Assistance of Global Insights (Adam Sacks) Used a number of Sources (BOP, External Trade Statistics, Ministry of Tourism Exit Survey, Expenditure Survey) Lack of Supply and Use Tables made it more difficult to reconcile the data.

The 2nd Attempt was done with the assistance of Statistics Canada - Demi Kotsovos TSA –Supply and Use 2005 TSA – Supply and Use 2007 Household Expenditure Survey 2006 Economic Census 2007

6 STATUS OF TSA IN THE BAHAMAS
Completed the 2007 TSA using the direct method. Currently working on a SUT for The next TSA will be extracted from the 2012 SUT

7 FUTURE PLANS Create a TSA from the 2012 SUT.
Indirect and Induced results are expected to be estimated for 2012. Additional training of staff in TSA

8 AREAS FOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Indirect and Induced Method of calculation. Training of staff by international bodies
