Using your new iPad
2
Turn on Your iPad and then… Select English Select United States Select DVUSD Mobile as your wifi network Select enable location services Hit Next Login in with school Novell username and password (this is what you always use when you log in to school computers) THEN STOP
3
Setting up your iPad Create a passcode under “Settings” and then “Passcode Lock.” Chose a 4 digit number you will remember!!!!!! A good idea is to use the last 4 or first 4 numbers of your student ID so you won’t forget it.
4
Setting up your iPad If you happen to forget this 4 digit passcode, what should you do? Try three or four time ONLY to figure it out. After that you MUST tell your teacher or put in a work ticket through the MRHS website If you enter the wrong code 10 times your iPad will lock you out with no easy way to unlock it. At this point a DVUSD technician will have to take your iPad and call Apple to verify that it isn’t stolen property. Then they can unlock it and return it to you. That will take a week at the minimum!!!!
5
Setting up your iPad Now that you have a passcode, no one can access your iPad if it is stolen or lost. This does create a conundrum, however, if your iPad is lost and someone finds it. You might want to put a selfie as your lock screen, then if I find it I will be able to tell whose it is.
6
Expectations Bring your iPad with you charged every day. Leave your charger at home. Your battery will last all day, and that will only tempt others who are not charged to steal it. Keep your iPad in the school issued or a personal case at all times! Use your iPad for work in your class, you are excepted to use if for work during class time not as a distraction. May not use them all of the time, or every day. Phones and music players are no longer needed, those need to stay IN YOUR BAG!
8
Warnings If you look at inappropriate material (even at home!) it will “ping” the system. Do not sync your school iPad with your personal cloud. These iPads are to ENHANCE instructions, not to be a distraction. You are in control of this. You need to be focused and on task at all times. If you airdrop everyone, everyone will get it…including myself! Don’t delete the DVUSD Moblie wifi. If you do, then you can’t reload it without losing your iPad to the district. Your iPad is worthless outside of the district. If it is stolen then no one can log in other than a DVUSD student or teacher. That means we will be able to track any stolen property and anyone that tries to sell them will not be able to do so.

What if… I forget my iPad that day? My iPad is not charged? I break my iPad/crack the screen? I lose or someone steals my iPad? Forget my password?
10
I forget my iPad that day? You will need to share with a neighbor that day. If this happens more than once you will receive disciplinary action from your teacher or lose in-class opportunities for completing work.
11
My iPad is not charged? You will either share with a partner, or use a charging station if it is available. Not all teachers have this station. IF this occurs more than twice then you may receive disciplinary action.
12
I break my iPad/crack the screen? Report this to the bookstore. You will turn in your iPad to be repaired and will be require to pay for the repair or make payments toward the repair cost. Repair costs are approximately $200. You will be issued another iPad while yours is being repaired.
13
I lose or someone steals my iPad? Fill out an incident report immediately in conduct. Your iPad’s location can be traced in district. If it is taken out of district it will not work, so it will be useless to the thief. Then you will need to arrange to pay the replacement charge to the bookstore so that you can get a replacement iPad. You will have 45 days to pay half of the cost. Then you will have 45 days to pay the second half. Another iPad will be issued during this time period. If you purchased the Optional Protection Plan, pay the deductible and be issued a new iPad.
14
Forget a password? Apple ID password Look it up in your phone if you saved it Go to iTunes and reset the password. An email will be sent to the email you entered when the Apple account was created. G-mail pass Go to www.portal.dvusd.org and log in. Click on Google accountswww.portal.dvusd.org 4 Digit Password Try 3 or 4 times ONLY, then notify your teacher.

Social Media Guidelines For Students
17
Due to the wealth of new social media tools available to students, student products and documents have the potential to reach audiences far beyond the classroom. This translates into greater levels of responsibility and accountability for everyone. These are the guidelines for students in the Deer Valley Unified School District using Web 2.0 tools in the classroom.
18
Be aware of what you post online. Social media venues are public. What you contribute leaves a digital footprint for all to see. Do not post anything you wouldn’t want friends, parents, grandparents, teachers, or a future employer to see.
19
Follow the school’s code of conduct when writing online. It is acceptable to disagree with the opinions of someone; however, do it in a respectful way. Make sure that criticism is constructive and not hurtful. What is inappropriate in the classroom is inappropriate online.
20
Be safe online. Never give out personal information, including but not limited to, last names, phone numbers, addresses, exact birthdates, and pictures. Do not share your password with anyone besides your teachers and parents.
21
Linking to other websites to support your thoughts and ideas is recommended. However, be sure to read the entire article prior to linking to ensure that all information is appropriate for the school setting.
22
Do your own work. Do not use other people’s intellectual property without their permission. It is a violation of copyright law to copy and paste other’s thoughts. When paraphrasing idea (s) from someone else, be sure to cite your source with the URL. It is good practice to hyperlink to your sources.
23
Be aware that pictures may also be protected under copyright laws. Verify you have permission to use the image or it is under Creative Commons attribution.
24
How you represent yourself online is an extension of yourself. Do not misrepresent yourself by using another’s identity.
25
Blog and wiki posts should be well written. Follow writing conventions including proper grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. If you edit the work of someone else, be sure it is in the spirit of improving writing.
26
If you run across inappropriate material that makes you feel uncomfortable, or is not respectful, tell your teacher right away.
27
Students who do not abide by these terms and conditions may lose their opportunity to take part in the project and/or access to future use of online tools. This can also result in disciplinary action as referenced in the code of conduct.
28
Apple ID Go to settings and then iTunes & App Store Tap the apple ID at the top to set yours up. You will need to use the apple ID (your academics email) that you set up with the school in November
29
Apple ID Do not use your personal apple ID. You can do this at home to get your personal apps on your iPad, but you should always be logged into your school apple ID when you are at school. If you do switch to your personal apple ID make sure to switch back to your school one. If you do choose to have personal apps, you can not use all the memory. This device is primarily for your school work, so you need to have enough room to get your school apps and save your assignments.
30
Gmail Go to the App Store and download the Gmail app You are going to log in using the username and password that you got in November off the portal. Example: jrdoe123@academi cs.dvusd.org jrdoe123@academi cs.dvusd.org
31
iPad Apps Download these apps that you will likely be using in your classes. Gmail Canvas Turnitin Pearson (Powerschools) i-nigma Pages Keynote Google Drive Blackboard These apps you might need but are optional. Penultimate Evernote iPad Secrets (free version) Twitter Nook/Kindle Quizlet Edmodo Schoology myHomework
32
DVUSD App DO NOT delete this app for several reasons This is how we deliver apps to you that you might need for your classes. Sometimes the district or teachers will buy them and this is the way to get them without having to spend your own money. It allows us to fix issues on campus rather than needing to wait for the district or for Apple to come and fix things therefore saving your time.
33
Notifications Any games or apps with notifications turn the notifications OFF!! Click on settings Notifications For each app turn off the notifications. DO this for all games and other apps you might have. You can leave notifications for the following: Calendar Messages Gmail
