11 Don’t Be a Fool, Piracy Ain’t Cool! The Internet: Student Orientation 10 PIRACY DOESN’T PAY! On Aug 1, 2009, a federal court ordered a Boston University Student to pay $22,5oo per song he had pirated. Having stolen 30 songs, the total amount he owes is $675,000. If he had bought the songs off of iTunes, they would have cost him $29.70. Piracy is not limited to movies or songs. It is illegal to take any data or software, that is intended for sale, without paying for it!
