John Adams John Adams was vp under George washington Adams served for two years as vp His political party federalist. His son was John Q Adams also a president

John Adams – 2 nd President The XYZ Affair: Controversy in 1798 over demands by French for bribes to the Americans. French agents demanded a bribe from Americans in order for the Americans to see the French Minister. These agents were called XYZ. Americans Refused to pay the French demands.

John Adams – 2 nd President The Alien and Sedition Acts: Under this act the president gain the right to imprison or deport citizens of other countries living in the United States. Sedition Act a person who wrote, published or said something false about the government or its official could be fined or jailed. The Federalist used the sedition act to silence republicans opposition.

John Adams – 2 nd President The Campaign in 1800: peaceful transition of power from Federalist to Jeffersonian Republican There were no campaings speeches and no statements from the candidates stood bahind the scenes hoping to win. Jeffersonian newspaper accused adams as a enemy to the people. Federalist asserted that jefferson was a godless man who would lead u.s into chaos. They said he was an agent of the french revolution(many people din’t believe that )
