9. Fact or Fib: Statement 8 In his farewell address, Washington encouraged the country to enter into an alliance with France and to develop political parties. FIB Washington said to avoid all these things including sectionalism!!!

10. Fact or Fib: Statement 9 FACT The Alien and Sedition Acts were passed to protect national security and strengthen the federal government.

11. Fact or Fib: Statement 10 FACT The Alien Act allowed the president to deport or imprison aliens who were considered to be dangerous.

12. Fact or Fib: Statement 11 The Sedition Act allowed people to discriminate against immigrants. FIB Sedition Act made it a crime to speak or write malicious criticisms of the government.

13. Fact or Fib: Statement 12 FACT The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battles of the American Revolution.

14. Fact or Fib: Statement 13 The Virginia and Kentucky resolutions used popular sovereignty to nullify acts considered unconstitutional by the states. FIB These states used the theory states’ rights. Popular Sovereignty is giving the people to power to decide.

15. Fact or Fib: Statement 14 Marbury v Madison established the principal of judicial review that the President has the final authority on the Constitution. FIB Judicial Review is the principle that states the Supreme Court has the final authority on the Constitution.

16. Fact or Fib: Statement 15 FACT In 1803, Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Territory for $15 million from France. This doubled the size of the United States.

17. Fact or Fib: Statement 16 The Lewis and Clark Expedition lasted from 1804 to 1810. They studied the Northwest Territory. FIB The expedition lasted from 1804-06. They explored, mapped, and studied the Louisiana Territory. Also, found a NW passage to the Pacific Ocean.

18. Fact or Fib: Statement 17 The Embargo Act of 1807 placed an successful ban on trade with only Britain and France. FIB The Embargo Act actually killed US Trade because it restricted imports/exports in an effort to hurt Briatin.

19. Fact or Fib: Statement 18 FACT The War of 1812 began over British impressment of US sailors and interference with trade.

20. Fact or Fib: Statement 19 FACT The British burned Washington, D.C. during the war of 1812.

21. Fact or Fib: Statement 20 FACT The Star Spangled Banner was a poem written by Francis Scott Key after a failed British attack on Ft. McHenry during the War of 1812.

22. Fact or Fib: Statement 21 Andrew Jackson lost an important battle in New Orleans. FIB Jackson won a battle in New Orleans after the war ended

23. Fact or Fib: Statement 22 FACT The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812.

24. Fact or Fib: Statement 23 FACT The Era of Good Feelings was a period of nationalism and unity during Monroe’s presidency.

25. Fact or Fib: Statement 24 Zebulon Pike explored the lower Mississippi River and present day Arizona. FIB He explored the upper Mississippi River and present day Colorado. Pike’s Peak is named after him.
