2 His Child Hood  Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on 15 January 1929 in his maternal grandparents' large Victorian house on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the second of three children, and was first named Michael, after his father. Both changed their names to Martin when the boy was still young.  King's paternal grandfather, James Albert King, had been a sharecropper near the small town of Stockbridge, Georgia, outside Atlanta. Like most sharecroppers, he had worked hard and earned little. King, Sr. was the second of ten children

3 His Most Famous Speech  "I Have a Dream" is a 17-minute public speech by Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered on August 28, 1963, in which he called for racial equality and an end to discrimination. The speech, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, was a defining moment of the American Civil Rights Movement. Delivered to over 200,000 civil rights supporters, the speech was ranked the top American speech of the 20th century by a 1999 poll of scholars of public address. According to U.S. Representative John Lewis, who also spoke that day as the President of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, "Dr. King had the power, the ability, and the capacity to transform those steps on the Lincoln Memorial into a monumental area that will forever be recognized. By speaking the way he did, he educated, he inspired, he informed not just the people there, but people throughout America and unborn generations

4 How He Stopped Segregation  Martin change the world by stopping segregation. Dr. King stopped it by his words, and he stopped it by not fighting. Also, he was able to stop people from putting the "white only" signs up in the city. Did you know, Martin stopped the Montgomery bus boycott? Dr. King changed the way that people used water fountains, the buses, and the segregation he stopped all of that. Martin gave 2,500 speeches during the last 11 years of his life, including his "I have a Dream" speech. Dr.King went country to country giving speeches about peace and kindness. Also, he changed the way that the African Americans were treated.

5  No one knew that martin Luther king would become the most important leader of the American civil rights movement. Also, his father and grandfather were pastor’s. He went to Colleges in Philadelphia and Boston. He was a pastor and a community leader. Also, he was inspired by this man who stopped a fight. He made “I have a dream” speech in front of the Lincoln memorial. After he was arrested, in 1964 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was arrested many times in the marches in Civil rights act of 1964 and in Voting act of 1965. Finally, his progress of making this country a beater place. Also, Martin and his wife Coretta Scott King had 4 kid’s: Yolanda, Martin Luther III, Dexter, and Bernice. We wouldn't have all the different friends that we have today without Martin. 6 His Family  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott exchanged vows on June 18, 1953. The ceremony was performed by Reverend Martin Luther King Sr on the lawn of Coretta's parents home in Marion, Alabama. MLK and Coretta became parents to four children: Yolanda Denise, Martin Luther III, Dexter Scott, and Bernice Albertine.  Yolanda Denise, born on November 17, 1955, was the first-born child of Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King. She was a human rights activist and an actress. Yolanda was active in many projects that honored her late father. In 1978 she played the role of Rosa Parks in a TV miniseries, King, that was based on the life of her father. She was a spokesperson for the National Stroke Awareness Association and active gay rights advocate. Yolanda die suddenly of an assumed heart attack on May 15, 2007 at the age of 51.  The first son born into the King family was Martin Luther King III. Concerned about burdening the child with having to live up to the legacy of MLK Jr. He was only 10 years old when his famous father was assassinated. He headed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference that was founded by his father and most recently served as director and co-owner of the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change with his brother, Dexter Scott King. He spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August of 2008 and it marked two major occasions of note: the first black nomination for president, Barack Obama, and the 45th anniversary of the "I Have a Dream" speech.  Dexter Scott King was born on January 30, 1961. Dexter started out in the same direction as MLK Jr. when he attended Morehouse College. But the younger King left school to become an actor and documentary maker. For a brief time he took the reigns as president of the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change but left after a dispute with his mother. Dexter's life was filled with legal problems that have pursued him to this day. He and his siblings have been in and out of court with accusations of mismanagement and misuse of assets.
