A formalized, multi-sector, county-wide coalition encompassing all of Ingham County to achieve its vision of reducing use and misuse of alcohol, and other drugs to plan, coordinate, and evaluate substance abuse prevention and treatment services available in our county www.drugfreeingham.org

Ingham County has successfully convened a wide variety of stakeholders from around the county with 17 active voting members and 30 participating non-voting members Health, Human Services, Courts, Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Providers, Schools, Law Enforcement, Workforce development, Government officials, pharmaceuticals, local colleges and the Lansing Lugnuts are represented

The vision of ISAP is that: use and misuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs are reduced in Ingham County prevention and treatment services are more available, accessible and affordable for everyone within the county cultural and social norms shift so that alcohol misuse, drug and tobacco use by adults; and alcohol, tobacco, and drug use by youth in the county is perceived as negative behavior by all community members county residents are increasingly engaged in healthy lifestyles

Surveyed Ingham County Youth in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 in 2004, 2006, and 2008 A county sample was established in 2006 and 2008 for comparison purposes (2004 was not a representative county sample) Measures risk and protective factors within the four domains: community, family, school, and peer/individual Risk and Protective factors have been shown to influence the likelihood of academic success, school dropout, substance abuse, violence, and delinquency among youth

2008 Ingham County Prevention Needs Assessment Data For all age groups, alcohol is the most frequently used drug. Cigarettes and marijuana are the next most frequently used for older youth.

Become an active, voting member of our county’s substance abuse prevention coalition. Pass a resolution to endorse the activities of the county’s coalition and assist the coalition in providing data. Host or support a local community awareness presentation.
