Louis was determined to wiggle from the poverty. In 1919, Armstrong was so deft that he moved to St. Louis to join a famous band. By the middle 1920s, Louis Armstrong’s reputation was rapidly rising. By 1929, Armstrong already became a very big jazz star. Then he had his own perform-anc e group -- Louis Armstrong and the Stompers. It was the 1930s and swing was in vogue. Armstrong’s touring band was an immense success. He toured many cities in the U nited States and in Europe. His own band, at first ‘Hot Five’ and later ‘Hot Seven’ was more than popular. In the 1950s, Armstrong recorded many big hits including ‘Hello, Dolly’ and ‘What A Wonderful World.’ His popularity reached its zenith. Armstrong tour ed the world as a goodwill ambassador for America with his band, ‘All Stars.’ He continued recording and performing until July 6, 1971 when he died in his sleep at hom e in Queens, New York.
