The University of Nairobi celebrated the installation of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter M.F Mbithi. This momentous event had the attendance of Kenyatta University’s Vice Chancellor- Prof. Olive Mugenda, Universities Chancellors’ Representative- Prof. Judith Bahemuka, Cabinet Secretary of Education, Science and Technology- Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, among other dignitaries who had come to offer congratulatory greetings to the newly appointed Vice Chancellor. Prof. George Magoha made a statement of appreciation, goodwill and farewell to his successor. The former Vice Chancellor wished the Council, entire University community and stakeholders, success in running the operations of the University. He also challenged them to maintain the healthy financial and academic status in which he had left the University. He will forever be remembered for playing a key role in transforming the University to a world class research and academic institution. His decade of service delivery has seen the University construct a 22-storey ultra modern tower. It is also in his tenure that the University embraced performance contracting and appraisal systems and got an invigorated Strategic Plan and Service Charter. On the same note, Cabinet Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Jacob Kaimenyi congratulated the Vice Chancellor and urged him to create strong and most reliable partnership with other sectors of the government so as to aid in attaining vision 2030. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi, wished the former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Magoha, success in his endeavors. He expressed gratitude to the government and more specifically, Cabinet Secretary of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, for his appointment and promised to deliver firm stewardship that will sustain the outstanding performance of the University and hold on to the spirit of inclusiveness and consultation in opinion making. ‘ University of Nairobi ISO 9001:2008 7 Certified http://www.uonbi.ac.ke

During his tenure as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance), Prof. Mbithi provided wholesome leadership that exhibited credible public financial management and credibility. He provided marked financial management, cost containment and austerity measures that saw the University attain an outstanding growth in fixed asset value that stands at Ksh. 95 billion up from 11 billion in 2005.
