SASTIPEN – ROMA CENTER FOR HEALTH POLICIES FROM ROMANIA Our vision Acting for a society which accepts diversity, where people are healthy and support each other. All have equal access to quality integrated services according to their needs.

Sastipen main objectives: SASTIPEN has the purpose of elaborating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating policies regarding the improvement of the situation of disadvantaged groups, as well as protecting human rights based on the principle of non- discrimination and equal opportunities between citizens. SASTIPEN supports the local and central authorities (with relevant experience regarding public health) in the process of improving the health situation of vulnerable groups, while pro moting gender partnership in public and private life. SASTIPEN is implementing lobby and advocacy activities meant to contribute in adopting by the governmental and intergovernmental bodies of coherent policies meant to improve the health status of the members of vulnerable groups.

TO TOUCH THE UNTOUCHABLE: COMBATING TRADITIONAL AND NEW ANTI-ROMA STEREOTYPES Examples of stereotypes and prejudices regarding the Roma “Gypsies are thieves and they are not trustworthy” “Gypsies embarass Romania when going abroad” “Gypsy women with skirts are thieves and dirty” “Gypsies ruin our image in Europe” “If your not going to behave, I’ll give you away to the gypsies” “The gypsies do not like going to school” ”The gypsies have their own law, their own Courts, and they do not comply with the Romanian laws” “The gypsies do not want to integrate in the society and they embarrass our country”

THE RESEARCH FINAL CONCLUSION The workers from the public institutions from Neamt county does not respect the principles of nondiscrimination and equal opportunities For this Sastipen: -Creating intersectorial Mobile Joint Task Force in Neamt county -Establish national intersectorial cooperation for fighting anti roma prejudice -Establish a mechanism for cooperation between roma community and workers form the public institution from Neamt county. -Public awareness campaigns against anti-roma stereotypes
