Cause and Effect Prior Knowledge Word Structure Vocabulary

Prior knowledge is what a reader already knows about a subject. Good readers use their prior knowledge to help them understand information as they read.

The effect is the action that happens. The cause is why it happens. Example: The girl got dirty because she fell in a mud puddle. Cause: because she fell in a mud puddle ▪ (Why it happened) Effect: The girl got dirty ▪ (What happened)

Prefixes and suffixes have their own meanings. When you see an unfamiliar word, check to see if a prefix or suffix has been added to the base word. This will help you figure out a word’s meaning.
