15. WHAT IS THE TARDY POLICY? A student arriving at school after the tardy bell must report directly to the main office. The student will be given a pass that identifies the tardy as “excused” or “unexcused”. 1.Provide a verbal warning to student. 2.Contact parent through phone call/via email. Log data into myMCPS. 3.Schedule morning/lunch reflection with student to develop action plan. Contact parent through phone call/via email. Log data into myMCPS. 4.Submit office referral to grade-level administrator. During periods 2-8, please admit the student to the class (with or without a pass) and take the following action

17. WHAT IS THE ELECTRONIC POLICY? Middle school students may possess portable communication devices on MCPS property and at MCPS-sponsored activities. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the device is turned off and out of sight during times of unauthorized use.  Give verbal warning. “Off and out of sight.”  Say, “Please give me your phone and it will be returned at the end of class.” Contact parent through phone call/via email. Log data into myMCPS.  Schedule morning/lunch reflection to develop an action plan. Contact parent through phone call/via email. Log data into myMCPS.  Submit office referral administrator.

18. MCPS STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES All students have the right to be safe and the right to learn. Every student must accept responsibility and consequences for their actions. Privacy Religious beliefs and practices Patriotic exercises Dress code Portable electronic devices Daily attendance Grading and reporting

19. DRESS EXPECTATION Clothing should reflect the idea that school is a place of business—Not a place of recreation. Judgment will be made by the administration or designated staff member about clothing considered disruptive to the educational process.  Endanger health and safety  An association with gangs  Lewd, vulgar, revealing or of a sexual manner  Promotes the use of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs  Hats must be taken off, upon entering the building. If you have a hat in the building, it will be confiscated by staff.

20. MCPS STUDENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Discipline will be fair and appropriate and not designed to embarrass students. Disciplinary action will be appropriate to the infraction and meet the students’ behavioral needs with tiered responses and interventions. Some include: Community service Detention Suspension (In-school/Out-of – school) Mentoring Conflict resolution Removal from extracurricular activities
