2
INTRODUCTION Children have curiosity and imagination enhance creativity and their ability to think Inject stimulus to multiply their imagination what they learn becomes more meaningful Children need to understand in advance how objects around them work so that the process of imitation can be applied to their artwork
3
CHILDREN’S IMAGINATION Children learn through their senses, feelings and imaginations According to Mayesky(2012), one way to help children think more creatively is to get them to “make things better with their imagination” The imagination of young children are highly developed and frequently used in play and art A dog can be as big as a bear, house can be a castle fill with jewels and a special can be invincible The imaginary life of a child is powerful and sways their perceptions of the real world until they master adult rationally and logic
4
SYMBOLIC THINKING In piaget’s stage of cognitive development in children, preoperational thought is characterized by the use of symbols to represent objects and relationships among them Examples of symbolic thought are pretend play, drawing, writing, and speaking Symbol systems allow children to invent, create, think, reinvent, a never-ending cycle of thought and creation Symbolic play is when a child assimilates a concrete object with a scheme which already exists for a familiar object(Ginsgerg, 79) For examples, as children, many people pretend to be rock stars and use a household broom as a guitar
5
THE USE OF TOOLS, MEDIA AND TECHNIQUES In artistic expression, a painter needs one canvas, brush and color. Children also need to be supplied with the appropriated tools to gain their imaginative stimulus The easiest thing is to provide paper and crayons and children are given the freedom to communicate using their own creativity A variety of tools and media Basic tools Picture Video recording and use of ICT Experience with idea
