 Professors aren’t “teachers” for a reason: learning YOUR job!  Do the math: 65% of college academic work is done OUTSIDE of the classroom  Get involved!

 Don’t memorize facts just for the test, then forget them.  Learn from the feedback: even if you receive an A on a paper, look to see what can be improved.  Make connections between material and classes: think critically!

 This is YOUR college experience.  Set expectations for the relationship.

 Know the “right who” to go to for help. ◦ What can a TA do?  Find a mentor that makes sense.  Get to know your professors.

 Have the right attitude about class/assignments.  Ask the right questions. ◦ Where are you trying to go? ◦ What skills do you need (and want)?  Take part of as many opportunities as you can.

 Choosing a major is the biggest decision of your academic life, but it will not affect your career forever.  The importance of your major isn’t just about the knowledge gained, but also, your ability to manipulate that knowledge.  Don’t just live with your choice-love it!

 Be strategic: Choose study habits that suit your learning style.  Don’t reinvent the wheel.  Have a plan ◦ Set goals ◦ Manage your time  In lecture: ◦ Read before, so information is familiar ◦ Take notes on dates, key words and repeated concepts

 Become distinct with knowledge and experience.  Be honest.  Be yourself.

 Challenge your worldview.  Start a conversation.  Study abroad.  Gain new experiences.
