By Jason Bignell

A quantum computer is a device for computation that makes direct use of quantum mechanical phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform operations on data INTRODUCTION

The basic principle behind quantum computation is that quantum properties can be used to represent data and perform operations on these data. “qubits” can be a 0, 1 or a quantum superposition of both A single qubit can represent many different states simultaneously Entanglement to “read” atoms 30-quibit computer= 10 teraflops Typical Desktop computers measured in gigflops CONCEPT

Multithreading ( on steroids) Searching large amounts of data Cryptanalysis AI Identification of objects APPLICATIONS

1998: First Qubit created 2000: 7 qubit computer created in single drop of liquid 2001: First qubyte (8 qubits) utilizing ion traps 2006: Control methods devoloped for 12 qubit system 2007: D-Wave demonstrates 16 qubit system, solves sudoku 2011: USC Receives first commercially available quantum computer (128 qubits) SCIENTIFIC PROGRESS

First commercially available Quantum computer USC Obtained the first one ( they were integral to the rise of internet standards and protocols, as well as high performance computing and AI) 128 qubits 20 degrees micro Kelvin (coldest possible temperature in the universe) Metallic superconductor ( almost zero electrical resitance) Adiabatic ( No net heat loss or gain) D-WAVE ONE ADIABATIC QUANTUM COMPUTER

The possibilities for quantum computers are staggering, from simulating the human brain to analysing the stars themselves. Estimates range from 5 to 20 years for publicly available Computers CONCLUSION
