Be sure to include the following parts: - Frontal lobe -Parietal Lobe -Occipital Lobe - Temporal Lobe -Cerebellum -Medulla Oblongata 3. Draw lines in your model to represent folds in your brain. 4. Reflexes ► Reflex- a quick, automatic response to a stimulus Processed in the spinal cord Ex. Blinking, sneezing Animals use reflexes to avoid danger
5
Reflex Arc ► Sensory receptor sensory neuron motor neuron effector ► Example: Stepping on a tack Receptor- toe feeling the tack, causing pain, ctivating receptor Sensory neuron- “pain” signal transmitted from receptor to motor neuron Motor neuron- signals leg to pull away from the tack Effector- leg muscles contract, foot is pulled away from the tack
6
Somatic vs. Autonomic ► Somatic nervous system- conscious control Example: Moving your fingers, toes, mouth, etc ► Autonomic nervous system- unconscious control Increasing heart rate and blood flow during exercise
