5 Student Rules n Do your best. n Be prompt & prepared for class. n Be polite and respectful to your classmates and your teachers. n Attend all class periods. n Participate in class everyday. n Take advantage of after school help.

6 Student Roles n Read the textbook and contribute to class discussions. n Accurately complete all homework and laboratory assignments. n Maintain an accurate interactive notebook. n Follow all safety rules in the laboratory area. n Study daily to reinforce concepts.

8 Teacher Role n Encourage all students to aspire, achieve, and excel in science. n Teach the Delaware State Science Content Standards. n Inform parents of student’s progress. n Provide tutorial help after school.

9 Grading procedure for every Marking period A – 100%-93% B – 92% - 85% C – 84% - 77% D – 76% - 70% F – below 70% Grades are determined from a variety of assessments: quizzes, science projects, labs, notebook checks, and tests. Assessments are given numerical grades, and grades are derived by dividing the total points earned by the total points possible. Then this ratio is converted to a percentage.

12 A typical Unit takes 2 wks. (8 to 10 days) Day 1 Lecture 2 Lecture & Discus- sion 3 Lecture & Mini lab 4 Block labs or Team Quiz 5 Review Session 6 Virtual lab or Computer quiz 7 News- paper articles Science Reading Debates 8 Lab 9 Peer Review Session 10 Unit Test & Notebook check

13 Unit Information n Homework is assigned on Monday, and reviewed on Tuesday. However it is only checked on Tests’ days. n Quizzes may be unannounced, but students can use their notebooks and work in pairs. n Labs will held on Block days. n Lab write-ups are due every Friday. n Notebooks will be checked every test day. The notebook should contain all notes, labs, handouts, homework assignments, quizzes, and tests. n Exams are held on the 3 rd or 4 th Friday of every month. n The Science project is due the week of each Marking periods Interim.

14 Parent Role n Encourage their child to perform their best. n Contact Instructor when there are any questions or concerns. n Contact your child’s guidance counselor to schedule a parent-teacher conference.

15 Important Days & Marking period Information n Exams are held 1 Friday per month, usually toward the end of the month. n Quizzes may be unannounced, but students may used their notebook during the quiz. Students will have at least 2 quizzes per month. n Science projects are due the week before each Interim. n What happens every M, T, W, Th, & Fri in Biology?

16 n If you have been absence, complete all assignments (labs, tests, & quizzes) within 3 days. H HW bin; Late slips/ Sign out sheet n Late assignments will not be accepted w/o parent contact. n Plagiarizing or cheating will be given a “zero” score. n Do your best to ensure success. n Strive for ‘s.
