3 A leading community grant maker A registered charity Independently run Income deeded from Lloyds Banking Group - £25m per year for 2013 Since inception over £312m invested in over 42,000 charities

4 At the heart of our work Supporting small & medium charities that help disadvantaged people who live in England or Wales to play a fuller role in the community

5 Our focus is on lasting change Support for charities that deliver lasting changes for individuals and/or communities Charities must show measurable changes for users

6 Funding Across the Regions In 2012, the Foundation awarded 841 grants, investing over £20.5 million across England and Wales 50% of our funding is invested in the 20% most deprived areas 75% of funding goes towards charities’ core costs such as salaries, rent and utilities

8 Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham and Westminster Since June 2010, over 40 grants awarded totalling over £1.1m to charities within the 3 boroughs including: £30k to Westminster Befriend a Family towards the salary of the Senior Project Manager £25k to the Midaye Somali Development Network for its Community Empowerment and Involvement Project £30,000 to The Womens Trust towards the costs of its West London domestic abuse counselling service £32,300 to Mencap Hammersmith and Fulham towards the salary and costs of an Advocacy Worker

9 Our Funding Programmes Community Programme The community programme focuses on funding work that helps disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community. To be eligible you must have: Unrestricted reserves of 12 months running costs or less Have an income of £1 million or less if you work locally or regionally Have an income of £5 million or less if you work nationally

10 Our Funding Programmes We also run issue-based programmes that fund charities specialising in particular areas –In 2012 we ran a new Older People’s Programme for charities whose work encourages empowerment and independence of older people –£2.1m was awarded to 15 charities Previous programmes have focussed on supporting people in contact with the criminal justice system including young offenders, ex-offenders and offenders with mental health issues

12 We focus on charities’ needs and delivering lasting change Support for charities with a track record of service delivery Core and/or activity costs Core costs including salaries so charities can deliver core services Projects and services that build on charities’ core purposes Established and/or new work Support for charities that can show lasting measurable outcomes for service users 1-3 year grants that are appropriate to the size of the charity

13 Our focus – who we don’t fund Organisations that are not registered charities Charities that mainly work overseas Charities that mainly give funds to other charities, individuals or other organisations Hospitals, hospices or medical centres Rescue services Schools, colleges and universities Charities with more than 12 months running costs in their free reserves

14 Our focus – what we don’t fund Activities for which a statutory body is responsible Capital projects, equipment, appeals, refurbishments Environmental work, expeditions/overseas travel, Holidays or trips. Work promoting religion Loans or business finance, sponsorship or funding towards a marketing appeal or fundraising activities Medical research, funding for medical equipment or health treatments Work with animals or to promote animal welfare

16 What we look for in a well run organisation Good governance Good support for staff and volunteer development Well managed finances Planning for the charity’s future Understanding of the needs of service users with services responding to these Good networking/external relationships Ability to describe and demonstrate the difference your work makes to your service users Commitment to quality

17 What we are looking for in an application A well planned proposal responding to an identified need An understanding of your service users A well thought out delivery plan and budget A clear identification of the objectives you are aiming to achieve and the changes and benefits (outcomes) it will deliver for your service users Details of how you will monitor and measure your progress in achieving your objectives

18 Before you contact us Do your homework and plan a timetable and outline costs Be clear about what you’re seeking funding for Does your funding need fit with our funding criteria and priorities. Not all funders are the right funder for everyone

19 Tips to help your application Be realistic in your request and in your proposal Build an evidence base – we’ll want to see how you monitor the changes and benefits experienced by users Ask someone to check your application before you send it
