Written Paper – 1 hour 45 minutes – 69 marks – 37.5%

4 Unit 3: Historical Enquiry British History (91453)
Controlled Assessment – 40 marks – 25%

5 Unit 1 Answer all questions on Topics 1, 2 and 3;
Topic 1: Origins of WW1 c Topic 2: Peacemaking and the League of Nations Topic 3: Hitler’s foreign policy and origins of WW2 DO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS ON OTHER TOPICS

6 Unit 1 Each Topic has 3 questions. Answer all 3 questions for each Topic. Spend about 35 minutes on each topic. Tactic: Reading question – 5 Mins Question 1 (4 Marks) – 5 Mins Question 2 (6 Marks)– 10 Mins Question 3 (10 Marks) – 15 Mins

7 Unit 1 – Question 1 This is a “Describe” question.
You need to describe at least 3 accurate ideas which are beyond simple / general.

8 Unit 1 – Question 2 This is the “Source” question. You need:
Evaluate Provenance of the source; and Use specific knowledge to support or oppose.

9 Unit 1 – Question 3 This is the “Extended Writing” question.
You need to assess both bullet points and provide a judgement based on evidence and focused on question. DO NOT just describe both events. Assessment – How important was the event in context with the question?

10 Unit 2 Answer 1 question from Section A, 1 question from Section B and 1 question from Section C. Which means you will answer all questions on Topics 1, 5 and 7; Topic 1: From Tsardom to Communism: Russia, 1914–1924 Topic 5: Hitler’s Germany, 1929–1945 Topic 7: Race Relations in the USA, 1945–1968 DO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS ON OTHER TOPICS

11 Unit 2 –Section A The Topic has 3 questions. Answer all 3 questions for the Topic. Spend about 35 minutes on the topic. Tactic: Reading question – 5 Mins Question 1 (4 Marks) – 5 Mins Question 2 (6 Marks)– 10 Mins Question 3 (13 Marks) – 15 Mins (including 3 for SPAG)

12 Unit 2 –Section B/C The Topics have 2 questions. Answer both questions for the Topic. Spend about 35 minutes on each topic. Tactic: Reading question – 5 Mins Question 1 (8 Marks) – 10 Mins Question 2 (15 Marks)– 20 Mins (including 3 marks for SPAG)

Answer shows understanding and is able to make inferences. Tip: Use the word “suggests” and “infer”

Focus on explanation NOT description Focus on causation or consequence

15 Unit 2 –Section A Question 3 (13 Marks) Need to focus on:
Analysis of contents Evaluation of provenance SPAG = Spelling, punctuation and grammar

16 Unit 2 –Section B/C Question 1 – Description Question (8 Marks)
Target is description. You must refer to the source Must provide detailed description on several aspects referring to source and using your own knowledge.

17 Unit 2 –Section B Question 2 – Description Question (15 Marks)
Organise answer into paragraphs You will need: Clear structure Developed balanced explanation of several features Balanced conclusion Tip: This question will always be a quotation SPAG = Spelling, punctuation and grammar

18 Unit 3: Historical Enquiry British History
Controlled Assessment 40 marks = 25% 2 questions Question 1 = 1 hour 30 minutes (800 words) Question 2 = 2 hours 30 minutes (1200 words) Preparation = 15 hours Research = 10 hours (research diary) Controlled Assessment = 4/5 hours
